Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Comprehensive Research
    • Address specific research needs of parliamentary clients.
    • Design and manage research projects to answer critical questions.
    • Organize planning meetings to devise project plans and conceptual frameworks for research outputs.
  • Strategic Research Support and Planning
    • Engage in Committee Business Planning to inform sector priorities.
    • Attend committee meetings to offer research insights as needed.
    • Proactively identify key issues within the sector that require the Committee's attention to aid in oversight and legislative functions.
  • Oversight Support and International Participation
    • Provide analytical support for oversight visits and international parliamentary engagements.
    • Craft briefing documents and concept papers for sectoral parliaments and related projects.
    • Offer on-site research assistance during regional and international parliamentary fora, such as the IPU, CPA, PAP, and SADC-PF.
  • Operational Procedures and Sector Specialization
    • Stay updated on policy developments and key stakeholder responses.
    • Attend workshops and seminars to enhance sector-specific knowledge.
    • Submit timely monthly reports and participate in performance management systems.
  • Quality Control and Information Dissemination
    • Ensure quality control of documents in accordance with unit standards.
    • Present findings and recommendations to Presiding Officers and Senior Management.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be a successful candidate, you must possess:

  • A Matric certificate and an Honours Degree (NQF level 8) in disciplines such as:
    • Environmental Science
    • Environmental Management
    • Natural Resource Management
    • Ecology
    • Forestry
    • Sustainability
    • Wildlife Management
  • A minimum of three years’ relevant research experience in natural resource governance and policy, along with solid communication skills.
  • A deep understanding of environmental governance, sustainable resource management, and the legislative roles of Parliament.
